1980s: Birth of Finnish synchronized skating and Rockettes
1989: First international competition in Laval, Canada.
Early 1980s: Jane Erkko introduces “precision skating” to Finland; first known as ryhmäkuviointi.
April 1984: First exhibition with 10 clubs; HTK’s two teams finish 2nd and 3rd.
Autumn 1984: Rockettes founded (originally “Hopeaparaati”); debut at HTK’s Christmas show.
1985–86: Name of sport in Finnish changes to muodostelmaluistelu; first national final win.
Late 1980s: Three consecutive senior national titles (1988–1990); birth of junior “sister” team.
1990–1995: National titles & international expansion
1991: First official Finnish Championships; Rockets crowned junior champions; soon renamed Rockettes.
1992: Return to senior level; Pia Linnonmaa becomes head coach; first victory over US champions.
1994–95: First major North American competitions; silver at Finnish Championships.
1995–2000: World stage breakthrough
1995–96: Debut at first ISU World Challenge Cup in Boston; 5th place.
1998: Kaisa Nieminen (currently Arrateig) becomes head coach; Finnish Championship title regained.
1999: Historic World Cup bronze in Gothenburg – Finland’s first major international synchro medal.
2000: 4th at inaugural official ISU World Championships in Minneapolis.
2000–2007: Podiums & near misses
2000–01: Finnish Champions; gold at North American International; World silver in Helsinki.
2003–04: Return to World podium with bronze in Zagreb.
2004–05: 20th anniversary; World silver in Gothenburg with national record score.
2005–06: World bronze in Prague; 100th competition milestone.
2006–07: First season under new 16-skater limit; unbeaten internationally but narrowly miss Finnish title.
2007–2008: World Champion for the first time
2007–08: Wins at Berlin, Prague, Finnish Championships; World Championship gold in Budapest – seven competitions, seven victories.
2008–2011: World titles and hat tricks
2008–09: Invited to Presidential Independence Day Reception; high-profile performances (TV, European Championships opening); The Story of Galadriel becomes a fan-favorite program.
2010: Second World Championship gold in Colorado Springs, USA.
2011: Rockettes, together with the junior and novice teams of the Helsinki Figure Skating Club, win the Finnish Championship titles in their respective divisions, making their club the first and only one to claim all three synchronized skating golds in the same year. This remarkable hat trick is repeated in 2020 and 2022.
2011: Winning the third World Championship gold at the Helsinki home event.
2012–2025: On and off the podium
2012–15: Fourth place at the World Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden (2012) and Hamilton, Canada (2015), silver in Courmayeur, Italy in 2014.
2015–16: The collaboration with Reija Wäre in creating choreography begins. Winning silver in World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. In the same year, Finland’s first official synchronized and figure skating alumni association, Rockettes Alumni ry, was established.
2017–19: World Championship bronze again on home ice in 2019, Placing 5th in Colorado Springs, USA, in 2017, and winning again World Championship bronze on home ice in 2019.
2020–2025: Towards the fourth world title
2019–20: The ISU Challenger Series was introduced for synchronized skating. No winner was declared in the series due to the COVID pandemic.
2020 & 2021: World Championships in Lake Placid, USA, and Zagreb, Croatia, were cancelled due to the COVID pandemic.
2021-22: Bronze at the World Championships in Hamilton, Canada.
2022–23: Dominant victory in the ISU Challenger Series, finishing over 15 points ahead of the next team. Silver at the World Championships in Lake Placid, USA.
2023-24: 40th anniversary celebrations, bronze at the World Championships Zagreb, Croatia.
2024-25: Fourth World Championship title on home ice in Helsinki. In February, a performance at Stockholm’s newly reopened Avicii Arena in front of a sold-out crowd of 14,000 at Swedish band Kite’s concert.
